Gantry Crane Systems
Gantry cranes are industrial lifting systems designed for handling heavy loads in open areas, production facilities, storage yards and locations where a conventional overhead crane runway structure is not available or practical.
At Topcu Crane, we design and manufacture gantry crane systems according to lifting capacity, span, lifting height, operating environment and project requirements. Each system is developed to provide safe, reliable and efficient material handling for the specific application.
What Is a Gantry Crane?
A gantry crane is a crane system supported by its own legs and travelling on rails installed at ground level. Unlike overhead cranes, gantry cranes do not require the crane bridge to be supported directly by the building structure.
This makes gantry crane systems especially suitable for outdoor working areas, open storage yards, precast facilities, steel processing plants and industrial sites where loads need to be moved across a defined area.
Depending on the project, gantry cranes can be designed as single girder or double girder systems.
Single Girder and Double Girder Gantry Cranes
Single girder gantry cranes use one main bridge girder and can provide an efficient solution for suitable lifting capacities and spans.
Double girder gantry cranes use two main bridge girders and are generally preferred for higher lifting capacities, wider spans, increased lifting heights or more demanding operating conditions.
The most suitable configuration should be determined according to the technical requirements of the project rather than lifting capacity alone.
Where Are Gantry Cranes Used?
Gantry cranes can be used in many industrial applications where heavy loads must be lifted and transported safely across open or semi-open working areas.
Typical application areas include:
- Steel and metal processing facilities
- Marble and natural stone plants
- Open storage yards
- Precast concrete facilities
- Machinery manufacturing plants
- Industrial warehouses
- Assembly and maintenance areas
- Heavy industry applications
How Is a Gantry Crane Designed?
Gantry crane design requires the evaluation of several technical parameters. Lifting capacity, span, lifting height, travel distance, operating frequency, wind conditions, ground structure and working environment must all be considered during the engineering process.
For outdoor applications, environmental conditions such as wind load, rain and temperature changes are also important factors in the design of the crane structure and electrical systems.
The runway, rail system and supporting structure must be designed in accordance with the operating loads of the crane to ensure safe and stable operation.
Gantry Crane Control and Power Supply Systems
Gantry cranes can be operated using pendant control or radio remote control systems depending on the project requirements.
Power supply systems are selected according to travel distance and site conditions. Cable reel systems, festoon systems, conductor rails and other suitable power transmission solutions can be applied according to the technical requirements of the project.
Topcu Crane Gantry Crane Manufacturing
Topcu Crane manufactures gantry crane systems in different lifting capacities, spans and lifting heights for industrial applications.
From engineering and manufacturing to installation and commissioning, each project is planned according to the operating conditions and technical requirements of the customer.
